The US has made a decision to help arm Ukraine so that the people can protect themselves against a Russian assault. The struggle in eastern Ukraine started in April when Russia took over Ukraine's southern Crimea peninsula and about 2,600 people have died since then. Senator McCain said that Ukraine must be provided with artilleries: "Give them the weapons they need. Give them the wherewithal they need. Give them the ability to fight"(McCain, 1). Many rebel forces have gained control of land in the far southeast of Ukraine where the Ukraine troops are trying to raise defenses in order to protect residents. The people of Ukraine blame Russia’s military for helping the rebels with their achievements. Of course the Russians deny that their military was involved. Mr. Putin believes that what the rebels are doing is "the natural reaction of people who are defending their rights"(Putin, 1). Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko believes that at this rate Ukraine is close to having a full scale war against Russia and this is why the US wants to help them by giving them weapons.
It is important for the general public to read about this
because the people should know that the Russians are interfering in eastern Ukraine
and they are not letting the people decide their own future. Russian troops are
currently inside Ukraine territory which is a violation of Ukrainian sovereignty.
The people should know this in order to not to blame the government for not interfering
and trying to help the people in need.

ReplyDeleteVanamaria, reading this post about the Ukrainians reminds me of the struggles the Armenians had to go through when they were under the rule of Russians. I agree that the United States should interfere and help Ukraine out. People have to imagine their own race in that situation. If Russians were attacking Armenians, I would absolutely want the United States to lend a helping hand. Other than that, your post is well written.

ReplyDeleteThe United States is a county formed off of the basic principles of freedom and human rights. Americans would not hesitate to back any country that seeks freedom, Ukraine being an excellent example. Russia has been a major rival to the United States for decades. The enemy of America's enemy, Ukraine, is America's friend. Let us hope that arming Ukraine does not backfire the same way it did when America armed the Taliban against Russia. This topic is highly informative, and a current global crisis which should be understood by the masses. The way you presented the information allowed the audience to easily grasp such an intricate concept.
